About Us
The reason I started this site was because I wanted put my efforts towards helping people to find alternative therapies to treat their common pain problems. It is no secret to anybody that prescription pain killer medication is way over prescribed and has lead to a national health crisis. But not only prescription medication is harmful. Regular over the counter medication can be harmful to your liver and other organs.
There are plenty of alternative remedies out there to discover. Not every one is right for you, but It’s worth investigating.
I have been experiencing headache pain for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I was diagnosed with migraine headaches. Although having way more painful headaches than the average person was definitely a small impediment to living a happy life, I was able to manage by avoiding certain triggers that I had recognized as problematic, and by using over the counter pain remedies.
When I got into my twenties things got much worse for me. I was not avoiding my triggers and instead I was compensating by taking tons of over the counter pain medications. What I was doing was lighting the candle at both ends. I was getting a tolerance for the pain medication and damaging my liver.
The tolerance to the various analgesics was causing rebound headaches. These are headaches that were the result of using too much of the analgesic and could have been avoided if I had used other methods of pain relief.
I was told by a doctor to wean myself off the pain medication and things slowly got better. I had to suffer through some terrible pain for a while, but the frequency and severity of the headaches was definitely mitigated. The reduced consumption of pain medication and the diligent avoidance of my triggers helped me get back to a much more manageable lifestyle.
A couple of years later the headaches came back with a vengeance. This time it was different. The pain was so excruciating that it caused panic attacks. My right eye would swell closed and one whole side of my head felt like it was being seared and slashed with a hot knife. I got hot flashes and would end up pacing around the cool basement in my underwear until the 45 minute episode subsided.
What I discovered was that I was experiencing the classic symptoms of a cluster headache. In my case they would come every year like clockwork, in the Fall, occur 3-5 times a day for about 45 -60 minutes, and this whole pattern would last for 6-8 weeks.
Neurologists were quick to offer me drugs, but that’s not what I wanted. I knew that would be a short term solution to a long term underlying issue. Drugs could potentially make things much worse. I’m still pretty sure that my overuse of regular over the counter analgesics years earlier had somehow caused this headache profile to morph form migraines into cluster headaches and I didn’t want to go down that road.
Everybody is different, and not everything here will work for everybody, but they are much safer and more natural alternatives, that in some cases, even address the root causes of the pain and problematic areas rather than just mask the symptoms.
